Privacy policy
Daily Scéal is a free project for learning Irish through the news, made by Joe Luca Dooley. It comes as a website (dailysceal.com) and an iOS app. This page covers both.
The iOS app
The app does not collect, store or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
Everything the app keeps stays on your phone: the stories it downloads for offline reading, the words you save, your flashcard progress, your chosen reading level and whether you've turned on the daily reminder. If you delete the app, all of that is deleted with it.
The app connects to dailysceal.com to download the day's stories and the word list. Those are plain files; the request contains nothing about you beyond what any web request contains, and we don't log it.
The optional 12:00 reminder is a local notification scheduled on your phone. No notification service or push token is involved, and you can switch it off in the app or in iOS Settings at any time.
Opening a story on RTÉ takes you to rte.ie in Safari, where RTÉ's privacy policy applies.
The website
dailysceal.com uses GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to count page views. It does not use cookies, does not track you across sites and does not store personal information. There are no accounts, and the site itself saves nothing about you.
Children
Daily Scéal is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
